Vicky Kounadini joins “Fair Winds and Following Seas” on Voice of Greece to discuss her biographical research into the life of her father, Mantzouranis Kounadinis, a seafarer from Skyros. The resulting book will be presented at a special event on Sunday, 8 November, at 19:00 Athens time, at the Piraeus Association. Admission is free.
Kounadini speaks with warmth, affection, and emotion about her father’s journey from Skyros to Thessaloniki, then to Brazil and a life at sea.
“This book is the result of eight years of research, gathering historical records and personal accounts. It took extensive searching, dedication, and love, spanning Greece, Brazil, and Norway.
“My father’s life was filled with travel, adventure, poetry, and one remarkable act of self-sacrifice: he jumped into the sea to save a Norwegian sailor, an act for which he was honored by the Liverpool Shipwreck & Humane Society,” Kounadini says.
