Lida “returns” to ERT and “Takes Her Time” | 03 Jan. 2025, 10:00

Lida Chalkiadaki, the beloved singer and songwriter of the ’70s, representative of the global anti-war generation of dissent and a pioneering artist in Ecology, is a guest on the show “Take Your Time” on Friday, January 3rd, shortly after 11:00 AM, at the Voice of Greece studio.

She made her first appearance in the music scene in 1967 with the album “Pio Psila”. She is the daughter of journalist Giorgos Chalkiadakis and singer-writer Danae Stratigopoulou. Growing up in an environment influenced by the Arts and Letters, she studied piano, harmony, and counterpoint at the Greek Conservatory under Clelia Fotopoulou-Terzaki. She first appeared publicly with Vangelis Papathanasiou, and as a true child of the global ’60s-’70s dissent, she became the first Greek female songwriter to perform the first song with ecological messages, collaborating with composer Spyros Vlassopoulos. Together, they formed the band “Lida & Spyros”, with the beautiful ballad “Otan Tha Genithei O Gios Sou” (When Your Son is Born), which participated in the Thessaloniki Song Festival. She has performed her own compositions as well as classical pieces, Beatles songs, Latin American blues, and folk song adaptations.

Together with poet Andreas Angelakis, they composed and performed rock ballads considered precursors to new age and ethnic music in Greece. Lida has collaborated in both recordings and concerts with notable artists such as Yiannis Markopoulos, Nikos Mamangakis, Mimi Plessas, Dionysis Savvopoulos, Nikos Xylouris, Mariza Koch, Despoina Glezou, Domna Samiou, Kostas Tournas, Vangelis Germanos, Thanasis Gaifylias, Argyris Kounadis, and many others.

She has written lyrics for significant performers (Stratos Dionysiou, Kostas Hatzis, Dimitra Galani, Fiona Tzavara, etc.) and has been involved in public affairs and literature.
