“Waiting for Christmas” | 20 Dec. 2025, 17:00

Antonia and Timos can hardly wait! Christmas is just a few weeks away! From the very first days of December, they begin their festive preparations. Together with their beloved grandmother, they make the Christmas wreath; they bake star-shaped cookies, decorate their tree, and visit the Sugar Village! As the days go by, the two children write their letter to Santa Claus and eagerly look forward to New Year’s Day. The first snow falls on Christmas Eve, and as they listen to their dear grandfather telling them the story of the birth of the little Christ in Bethlehem, they learn the most beautiful and hopeful message of all: the most precious gifts are the ones we offer to those who truly need them.

The Voice of Greece program “Narratives – Stories and Fairy Tales for All Ages” presents, on Saturday 20 December 2025, from 17:00 to 18:00 (Athens time), a narrated reading of the Greek edition of the book “Waiting for Christmas”, published by Modern Times, translated by Maria Angelidou.

From the very first week of December, two young siblings, Antonia and Timos, talk to us about the first decorations, with the handmade Christmas wreath that hangs on every door, as well as the custom of the first gifts children receive on the eve of Saint Nicholas’ feast day. Up until the third Sunday of December, they sing Christmas carols and listen to the story of Christmas in the warm company of their beloved grandfather. What surprise are they preparing as they hear about the Three Wise Men who brought gifts to the newborn Christ? A beautiful fairy tale that reminds children and adults alike of traditional Christmas in Greece, celebrating the values of offering and generosity.
