Mr. Dimitris Karageorgopoulos, member of the Executive Board of the GSEE (General Confederation of Greek Workers), was hosted in the studio of Voice of Greece on the show “Take Your Time” with Prokopis Agelopoulos. The conversation was prompted by the major strike mobilization of April 9th.
They discussed workers’ rights, the violations committed by employers, and how employees can respond—even though recent trends toward more flexible labor relations have made such responses increasingly difficult. They also addressed the current role of the GSEE and the pressing need for the confederation to rectify past shortcomings in order to regain workers’ trust.
Mr. Karageorgopoulos noted that workers can stay informed on relevant issues through kepea.gr, the GSEE’s dedicated information platform. He encouraged those employed in companies where the law does not allow for the formation of internal unions to seek out and join local or sectoral unions, and to stay in contact with them—or directly with the GSEE—so they can find support when facing employer misconduct.
Finally, the discussion touched on a new and growing challenge: Artificial Intelligence, which especially affects highly specialized workers, as well as the phenomenon of remote work—something that took off during the pandemic and remains a strong trend today.
