On today’s episode of “Take Your Time” with Prokopis Agelopoulos, the new Consul General of Greece in Adelaide, Alexandra Theodoropoulou, was hosted. She shared that upon arriving in Adelaide, she discovered a different Greece, a new Greece that captivated her and continues to do so day by day. She highlighted how the people there combine modern ways of thinking with traditional Greek values such as honor, family, and pride. Regarding the Greek community in Australia, she mentioned that it stands out in all fields and evolves, strongly maintaining its sense of identity. She also expressed her commitment to promoting the request for a sister-city relationship between Adelaide and Athens, as Adelaide is often referred to as the “Athens of the South.”
Alexandra Theodoropoulou was born and raised in Athens. She studied Law at the University of Strasbourg and also attended the Law School of the University of Barcelona. She then pursued postgraduate studies in Philosophy in Paris (École des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales) and Brussels (Université Libre de Bruxelles). She holds a PhD from the Department of Political Science and History at Panteion University of Athens.
Her career includes service at the Permanent Representation of Greece to the United Nations (Geneva, 2002-2003) and to the European Union (Brussels, 2003-2007). She was Consul General of Greece in Houston (USA, Texas, 2007-2011), and Chargé d’Affaires at the Greek Embassy in South Africa (Pretoria, 2016-2019).
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she worked on various aspects of diplomacy (bilateral and multilateral relations, economics, culture, the Greek diaspora) and served as a Diplomatic Advisor at the Ministry of Culture. Since August 2024, she has been the Consul General of Greece in Adelaide, responsible for South Australia and the Northern Territory.
Before joining the Diplomatic Service, she taught Law at the Francophone Center for Advanced Studies in Athens and worked as a journalist for the newspaper To Vima. She is the author of Survival and Holiness, Early Humanity, the Greek Cosmology, and the Eleusinian Mysteries and has published articles on contemporary and ancient philosophy, as well as topics related to Greek culture.
She has also published two poetry works under the name Alexandra Kandano: A Thousand and One Nights (Gavriilidis, 2014) and The Winged Reins of Love (Gavriilidis, 2017). She has one son, Iasonas Kouzas, a precious teacher, student, and companion.
