On the Thursday, April 3, 2025, episode, after covering the day’s current affairs and newspaper headlines, we discussed the tariffs announced by Donald Trump with Konstantina Kottaridi, Professor of Economics at the University of Piraeus. We examined the reasons behind the American president’s decisions, his expected goals, the impact on the global and American economies, and how the markets and European countries are likely to respond.
In the second hour, we connected with Thailand and spoke with Greek expatriate Stelios Nikolis, who has been living there for the past four years and is engaged in tourism and real estate business on the resort island of Koh Samui. Our discussion was prompted by the recent earthquake in Myanmar, but we also talked about his life there, his business activities, and the conditions for someone from Greece considering a trip to the country for vacation.
Right after, Dimitra Lachouri from ERT Lesvos updated us on a refugee shipwreck that occurred overnight in the Skala Sykamias area, tragically costing the lives of seven people.
In the final part of the show, we spoke with Evi Nomikou, Professor of Marine Geology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, regarding a symposium organized by the Academy of Athens’ Research Center for Natural Disasters titled “Dialogues on Santorini.” Professor Nomikou informed us about the observations made in the area during periods of intense seismic activity, the findings related to the magma that caused it, and whether these developments affect volcanic activity.
