Eleni Nastouli on “Take Your Time” | 10 July 2024

Eleni Nastouli, Professor of Virology at Univercity College London, was hosted by the show “Take Your Time” with Prokopis Angelopoulos.

Referring to the coronavirus, Ms. Nastouli emphasized that there is currently a small global outbreak due to a new strain called FLiRT. Regarding hospitalizations and deaths, she said, in July there was a small increase in America, in contrast to Britain which was less.

She also noted that the seasonality of the coronavirus has not yet occurred and emphasized that the vaccine is lacking in new mutations without this meaning that it does not work to a large extent. She also added that the vaccine is important for the elderly and vulnerable groups, noting that the risk depends on each person’s history.

Answering a question about the update of the vaccine in relation to the new mutation, she said that for the autumn one, it will be done before the end of the year.

She argued that the problems that exist in Britain’s National Health System are common to those of other countries and need greater support and investment to address them.
