The program hosted the Director of the branch of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture in Italy, Ms. Aliki Kefalogianni, who spoke about the philatelic exhibition “Naval Navigation” that was inaugurated at the Postal and Telegraph Museum Mitteleuropa and, due to increased attendance, will remain open to the public until the end of October. The exhibition is part of the Philatelic collection of the Maritime Museum of Crete.
As Ms. Kefalogianni mentioned, the wealth of historical information provided in the series of stamps is remarkable, as we encounter great explorers and seafarers throughout the centuries, such as Christopher Columbus (1451-1506), James Cook (1728-1779), Ferdinand Magellan (1480-1521), Vasco da Gama (1460-1524), and others, as well as works by significant painters such as the Dutch Willem van de Velde the Younger (1636-1672) and the British Richard Wright (1723-1775), which depict significant naval battles that changed the course of history.
