The program hosted Vasilis Kolonas, an architectural historian and professor at the Department of Architecture at the University of Thessaly, discussing his book “The City | Urban Space in C.P. Cavafy”. This bilingual edition (Greek – English) explores the city through the eyes of the renowned poet.
What was Alexandria like during Cavafy’s time? What did he see from his window? Did he admire or disparage the city? Using rich photographic material of Alexandria from 1991 to 2009, primarily focusing on Greek businesses and architectural elements referenced in Cavafy’s poetry (windows, staircases, doors), the book bridges the poet’s city with the modern-day metropolis.
The publication will be presented in May 2025 in Alexandria at the Hellenic Foundation for Culture’s local branch.
