Nikoletta Tsitsanoudis-Mallidis ”Takes her Time” with Prokopis Aggelopoulos | 09 Feb. 2024

Mrs. Nikoletta Tsitsanoudi-Mallidi, Professor of Linguistics and Greek Language at the University of Ioannina, Special Associate of Linguistics at the Center for Hellenic Studies at Harvard University, was hosted on Voice of Greece and the show Take Your Time with Prokopis Angelopoulos, on the occasion of the International Greek Language Day.

Mrs. Tsitsanoudi noted that “the greatest responsibility remains to claim the preservation, dissemination and preservation of the Greek language”, while replying to a question about the way young people use the language, she stated that “linguistic science claims that we have dialects in addition to the official language. We stand with understanding, taking into account the pressures on language. Young people do well to speak like this, and we continue to teach because language acquisition is a constant battle.”

Regarding the separation of language, she stressed that “we have studied the language issue which is a related to social and political changes” and argued that “I will support the part of the educational process for which many conferences are held on how to teach the language not only as a mother tongue but also as a foreign one. It takes passion, imagination and we teachers have to become competitive,” she added.

Then, Mrs. Tsitsanoudi referred to the organization of the 10th International Summer University “Greek Language, Culture and Media” to be held from May 28th to June 2nd, 2024 in Boston. The program is organized by the Laboratory for the Study of Social Issues, Media and Education of the Department of Early Childhood Education of the School of Education of the University of Ioannina, the Maliotis Cultural Center of the Hellenic College Holy Cross in Boston and the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA).
