On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, after the newspaper headlines, we spoke with Mr. Stefanos Kounouklas, President of the DEI Technicians’ Union, about the progress in repairing the damage caused by the massive fire in Northeastern Attica, highlighting the extraordinary efforts of the workers.
Next, we “traveled” to Sintiki, Serres, where we spoke with Mayor Georgios Tatsios about a major fire burning the pristine forest on Mount Orvilos since July 18. The ground firefighting teams have been unable to operate due to landmines from the War era, a situation that also occurred 20 years ago. The mayor called on the government to clear the minefield.
At 11:40, we connected with Mr. Vangelis Gerasopoulos, Director of the Institute for Sustainable Development at the National Observatory, to get the latest data on air quality during and after the major fire.
The first hour concluded with international news updates from Ivana Djordjevic.
In the second hour, we welcomed Nikolas Katrantzis, a 22-year-old Greek-Swiss musician from Sycamia, Lesvos, who has emerged as one of the most talented jazz musicians in Switzerland. The young artist, who composes new music and has also turned to Greek songs with his band “Kourbeti,” arrived at the studio just after returning from his hometown, Mytilene, before heading back to Switzerland. He discussed his artistic and personal journey as well as his goals and plans for the future.
The show ended with sports news from Petros Mavrogianidis.
