Anastasios Tamis, researcher and Emeritus Professor of the History of the Greek Diaspora based in Australia, spoke about the major event being organised in Melbourne for World Greek Language Day on Monday, 9 February, as well as about the importance of language in promoting Greek culture, on Voice of Greece and the program “Our Global Voice” with Dimitris Kontogiannis.
Mr. Tamis proposed the creation of a fund supported by sponsors from within and outside Greece, under the supervision of the Greek Ministry of Culture, which would finance events aimed at promoting the Greek language in economically disadvantaged regions of the world—such as Asia, Latin America, and Africa—within the framework of its recognition by UNESCO.
