Nicoletta Tsitsanoudi-Mallidi, Professor of Linguistics and Greek Language at the University of Ioannina, spoke about the 12th International Summer University “Greek Language, Culture and Media,” held from 6 to 11 September 2026 at the University of New South Wales in Sydney.
Focusing on “The Greek Language in Australia: From Memory to the Future,” the event brings together more than 120 speakers and presenters from several countries. Professor Tsitsanoudi-Mallidi discussed the program on Voice of Greece’s “Our Global Voice” with Dimitris Kontogiannis.
She emphasized the importance of preserving the Greek language and identity among third-, fourth-, and even fifth-generation members of the Greek diaspora in a multicultural society such as Australia. At a time of rapid technological change, she highlighted the need to bridge the gap between the pioneering migrants’ “language of memory” and the “language of the future.”
She also discussed the vital role of Greek diaspora media in preserving and promoting the Greek language.
