Author Ifigeneia Theodorou talks about her recent book and her connection with Greek Diaspora

We welcomed author Ifigenia Theodorou to the studio of Voice of Greece, on the occasion of her receiving the Nikos Themelis Award for her book “Είναι μια Θάλασσα”. The book is a collection of short stories featuring the same characters from her debut work, “Χρυσός, Λιβάνι και Σμύρνη”, now living in present-day Athens. These are characters who, as she herself notes, are still in search of that primordial sea—homeland that embraces and consoles like a nurturing mother.

Ms. Theodorou speaks about her 35-year relationship with Greek communities abroad, shaped by her lived experiences as the wife of a Greek diplomat. These experiences became the catalyst for embarking on her writing “adventure,” which began with “Χρυσός, Λιβάνι και Σμύρνη”—a book she completed after a three-year stay in Smyrna. Since then, she has gifted us with a total of seven books, both novels and short story collections.
