The program “Take Your Time,” with Prokopis Agelopoulos, welcomed author and lyricist Kostas Balachoutis, one of the foremost researchers of Greek popular music, on the occasion of the release of his new book Stelios Kazantzidis: “No One Can Erase Me.”
In this book, Balachoutis presents a deep and multi-layered study of the life, work, and personality of the great popular singer. Drawing on interviews, unpublished testimonies, audio archives, and rare sources, he seeks to illuminate the real Kazantzidis—beyond the myths and narratives that have followed him for decades. The book highlights his artistic choices, his conflicts, his long periods of withdrawal, and the profound humanism that runs through his songs. It also explains why Kazantzidis remains a living, timeless voice and sheds light on lesser-known aspects of his life and career, helping us understand more fully a defining chapter of modern Greek cultural history.
