The president of the Kastorian Association of New York “Omonoia,” Mr. Christos Gioves, spoke on the Voice of Greece and the program “Take Your Time” about the history of the association, founded in 1910, the Kastorian compatriots in America who always remember their city and villages and return, as well as the society’s initiatives, centered on supporting the weak and those in need.
He spoke about the scholarships the association offers to students from Kastoria, the soup kitchens, and the broader initiatives aimed at alleviating hardship for those going through difficult times.
We also discussed the Kastoria he left behind when he emigrated 55 years ago, and how he sees his homeland changing year after year.
We closed the conversation with a reference to the festive season, and he recommended for the Feast of the Virgin Mary the village fair in Pentavryso, Kastoria.
