In the second hour of the program “Take Your Time” on Thursday, 28 August 2025, the guest in the studio was, for the first time, the Greek Professor of Virology at University College London, Eleni Nastouli—the scientist widely known during the pandemic for her calm, scientifically substantiated views on the evolution and management of COVID-19.
She spoke about her decision to settle in London, where she completed her specialization after graduating from the Medical School of the University of Athens. She reflected on the difficult period of the pandemic, the efforts of the scientific community to curb it, the mistakes that were made, and the benefits that came from the development of vaccines.
In general, she discussed ongoing research into vaccine development and the fight against other diseases. She also emphasized the fact that today, in the United States, official positions are being taken against vaccines—something she described as sad.
The conversation also touched on the broader discussion that must be held about the impact of human behavior toward flora and fauna on public health, and, more generally, on the effects of environmental degradation.
She raised concerns about the difficulty of delivering essential medicines to Third World countries and war-torn regions—especially for children. Finally, she commented on scientific research in both the UK and Greece, and on what conditions must be met in order for Greek researchers working abroad to return to their homeland.
