“Faraway Words” with Zoe Tiganouria | 28 May 2025

Accordion soloist and composer Zoe Tiganouria was a guest in the studio of Voice of Greece, in a conversation inspired by her latest project: the soundtrack for the Hollywood film Forbidden Tango, a comedy that has already garnered awards at several international film festivals.

During the interview, she reflected on pivotal moments in her career, her musical encounters with legends like James Brown and Chico Freeman, and the sounds and experiences that have shaped her artistic identity. She also spoke about her compositions inspired by Smyrna, the Pontian Genocide, and the Greek War of Independence.

Tiganouria shared plans for her upcoming summer concerts, which include an ambitious project featuring beloved Stelios Kazantzidis songs arranged in a classical style for a chamber quintet, as well as a new production showcasing the finest Greek tangos and waltzes.

The program also featured selections from the Forbidden Tango soundtrack, along with her track “OPA – Ωπα”—a fresh, modern interpretation of a traditional Naxian sousta, performed on accordion.
