Giannis Maragkoudakis, President of the Organizing Committee of the AEGEAN 600 and President of the Hellenic Offshore Racing Club (HORC), joins Voice of Greece and “Fair Winds and Following Seas.”
He takes listeners behind the scenes of the sixth AEGEAN 600, discussing the race’s unique 600-nautical-mile non-stop course, this year’s weather conditions, the participating crews, and the factors that have contributed to its growing international reputation.
Reflecting on this year’s event, he notes that favorable meltemi winds prevailed for much of the race, interrupted only by a period of calm near Rhodes. Of the 77 competing yachts, 70 represented foreign entries, a sign, he says, of the race’s steadily increasing international profile and of Greece’s appeal as a world-class sailing destination, thanks to its unique route, history, natural beauty, and maritime heritage.
Maragkoudakis also speaks about the Aegean Rally, the second-oldest offshore sailing race in the Mediterranean, which will be held this year from July 17 to July 27.
