Eleni Kritikou from Symi on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” | 29 Jan. 2026

Eleni Kritikou, Vice President of the Social Association of Symians O Panormitis, takes the helm of the program Fair Winds and Following Seas on Voice of Greece.

She guides us and takes us on a journey to the beautiful maritime island of the Dodecanese, the enchanting Symi, with its rich history and deep-rooted seafaring tradition—its sailors, shipwrights, slipways, and boatyards.

There are certain families, as well as some individuals, who continue this craft, which unfortunately is slowly fading away. This is an issue that all stakeholders and the state must address together. However, I see that on Symi, despite tourism, the younger generation is once again turning to ships and enrolling in maritime academies for deck officers and marine engineers,” Ms. Kritikou notes, among other things.
