Katia Nikolaou left her homeland, Cyprus, in 1981 to settle in New York, where she pursued studies in Computer Science and Sociology, aiming to build her professional career in the United States. There, she started a family and, in recent years, has been working as an interpreter. In a revealing interview, she spoke about her life in New York, her relationship with the city’s new mayor, Zohran Mamdani—expressing great enthusiasm for his character and personality—as well as her connection with Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders. She also reflected on her ties to her homeland, Cyprus and Greece, and on the role and vitality of the Greek community in New York.
