On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Exodus of Messolonghi, the program welcomed from Naples professor, historian, author, and key figure of the Greek diaspora in Italy, Giannis Korinthios—also the initiator of the World Greek Language Day.
Mr. Korinthios spoke about the invaluable contribution of the expatriate Sicilian Giovanni Romey to the Greek War of Independence, as well as his memoirs “Memorie storiche dello assedio di Mesolongi” (Historical Memoirs of the Siege of Messolonghi), in which he records the second siege and the dramatic Exodus.
He also referred to the life and journey of Romey, highlighting the importance of the memoirs he himself published in 1982. This account is considered particularly valuable, as it offers a personal perspective on one of the most defining moments of the Greek War of Independence—one that ultimately led to Greece’s liberation.
