Maria Deligianni, Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean at CLIA, speaks on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” on Voice of Greece.
“Cruise ships account for just 1% of all ships worldwide — about 450 cruise ships in total — yet they employ nearly two-thirds of all seafarers, more than 200,000 people. Also, only 2% of the world’s seafarers are women — and we are honoured that over 90% of those women work aboard cruise ships,” Ms. Deligianni states.
Referring to Greece, she notes:
“Greece is a very important country in the cruise industry. We are the third-largest European destination after Italy and Spain. Each year, Greece receives about 5,500 cruise ship calls.”
