Yakinthos Delernias on the Turkish Invasion of Cyprus | 22 July 2025

Yakinthos Delernias, an administrative officer at Neapolis University Pafos, spoke about the wounds left by the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in July 1974, in an interview with Voice of Greece and the program “Our Global Voice” hosted by Dimitris Kontogiannis.

He addressed the violation of human rights, the commemorative events held in honor of the fallen, Cyprus’s economic recovery from the ruins, and the seizure of the displaced persons’ property.

Regarding the property issue, Mr. Delernias emphasized the role of the occupying authority in obstructing Greek Cypriot rightful owners from managing their properties—contrasting this with the way the Republic of Cyprus has handled Turkish Cypriot properties in the free areas of the island. Finally, he commented on the strong presence of the Chinese, Russian, Ukrainian, Israeli, and Arab communities in Cyprus, particularly in the real estate sector.
