The captains Stelios Frantzekakis and Stelios Koumbias on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” | 17 Feb. 2025

Captain Stelios Frantzekakis and Captain Stelios Koumbias speak on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” and Voice of Greece.

Captain Stelios Frantzekakis talked about the event of cutting the cake for the retired officers of the Chania region, which was a great success. He also shared a challenging experience from 1972 as a sub-lieutenant on the M/V CHIAN WAVE, a freedom ship, when they encountered heavy fog in the Atlantic Ocean during their voyage from Belfast to the Canadian Lakes, with the risk of colliding with icebergs. Fortunately, everything turned out well in the end.

Captain Stelios Koumbias from Chios discussed the new generation of sailors graduating from the various maritime academies across the country. He recalled instances of cadets and newly appointed officers, describing how they managed to evolve and succeed in the challenging field of maritime industry. His main advice to the new sailors is to love and respect the sea and the profession of seafaring.
