Speaking on Voice of Greece’s program “Take Your Time,” Mayra Myroyianni, Secretary General for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, discussed the role of Greek diaspora scientists as ambassadors of Greece abroad.
The discussion was prompted by the symposium “The Role of Greece in European Science Diplomacy: Building Connections, Shaping the Future,” held on Thursday, 11 June, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event brought together Greek scientists from abroad as well as researchers and academics from Greece. It was co-organized by the Secretariat General for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy, the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation of the Ministry of Development, the European Commission, and the EU Science Diplomacy Alliance.
Among its objectives, the symposium sought to strengthen ties between domestic science diplomacy stakeholders and Greek diaspora scientists and researchers, fostering cross-border networks and promoting mutual understanding among academic, policy, and scientific communities.
Ms. Myroyianni also referred to the intensified efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, to strengthen Greek-language education abroad. In addition, she spoke about the successful youth hospitality programs for young members of the Greek diaspora, which will once again be organized this year by the Secretariat General for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy.
