Shipowner Nikos Savvas on the Middle East and the Red Sea, on “Our Global Voice” | 12 Mar. 2026

Shipowner Nikos Savvas—one of whose merchant vessels sank in the Red Sea last summer, leaving four people dead after an attack by the Houthi movement—gave his own interpretation of the possible closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking on Voice of Greece, on the program “Our Global Voice” with Dimitris Kontogiannis, he described in detail the dangers faced by ships and their crews in the Red Sea due to Houthi attacks, the insufficient protection provided by the vessels of EUNAVFOR ASPIDES patrolling the area, and the role of the United Nations.
