Unguarded Passage: Pain Clinics and Palliative Care | 08 Nov. 2024

On the occasion of Open Day for Pain and Palliative Care Clinics 2024, the radio series Unguarded Passage presents a compelling podcast on pain management in the palliative care centers of public hospitals.

Journalist Thomas Sideris, with extensive personal experience in pain clinics, discusses with pioneers of the field about their operations. This radio documentary is produced in collaboration with the Hellenic Society for Pain Therapy and Palliative Care (PARI.SY.A.).

On the Open Day for Pain and Palliative Care Clinics, therapeutic teams at the clinics will be available to patients from 10 AM to 6 PM, without appointments, to provide information, diagnosis, and support. The event aims to remind everyone of the longstanding call for these services to be integrated into the national healthcare system, with the dedicated volunteer doctors and nurses working tirelessly in public hospitals to build these structures over the years.

It is important to note that while pain treatment and palliative care are fundamental human rights, they are still offered voluntarily in Greece’s public hospitals. Healthcare professionals continue to go above and beyond their duties, constantly shifting between surgeries, clinics, and intensive care units to ensure that patients suffering from pain are not left unsupported.
