Spyros Pappas: A modern Argonaut awards the distinguished Greeks of the world

The guest of the show “Faraway Words” on “Voice of Greece” on Monday, October 10, was the lawyer, former Director General of the European Commission, and President of the Hellenic Network in Brussels “Argo” Mr. Spyros Pappas.

Mr. Pappas spoke to Natasa Vissarionos about the objectives of the Network, which “counts about 700 active members” and also about the “Argo” awards, which are given for the 4th year to distinguished Greeks abroad.

It should be noted that in previous years important personalities of the Ecumenical Hellenism have been honored with the Argo award, such as Albert Bourla (who at that time had not yet become widely known, as Mr. Pappas pointed out), Yorgos Lanthimos, astrophysicist Athena Coustenis, writer Jeffrey Eugenides, genetics professor Eleftheria Zeggini, and others.

Mr. Pappas stressed that “Greeks excel abroad” and that “Greece is the Hellenism that flourishes“. He also mentioned that there are eight categories of awards: Arts and Culture – Entrepreneurship – Sports – Science – Innovation – Community Service – Humanitarian Service and Gastronomy.

The “Argo 2022” awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday, October 12, at the Benaki Museum, where the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mrs. Katerina Sakellaropoulou will present the awards. The event is held under the auspices of the Presidency of the Hellenic Republic.
