On February 8th, 2024, we connected across the Atlantic and Boston, to meet Mr. Kimon Fotiadis, who was forced to leave Greece in order to be able to adopt and raise children with his partner, away from a society that behaved with hostility towards same-sex couples.
Mr. Fotiadis describes the difficult years he lived at school and explains the reasons that led him to the decision to become a parent and settle, years ago, in Belgium, where marriage for same-sex couples was established as early as 2000. Today he lives in Boston, USA to support his children in the next step of their studies.
Following the show, we read the newspapers headlines, while the first hour ended with our acquaintance with another female mayor from the only 22 elected in the recent local elections: Mrs. Maria-Christina Averoff, mayor of Metsovo, who talked to us, among other things, about the big problem of young people leaving rural areas for large urban centers and foreign countries. She also talks about the issues faced by farmers and livestock breeders in the region.
In the second hour we spoke with Mr. Sokratis Aleiftiras, spokesperson of EOASN of Larissa and president of the Agricultural Association of Katochori in Farsala, about the farmers’ mobilizations and demands, but also the possibility of farmers coming to Athens with their tractors.
Immediately afterwards, we opened a line of communication with Mr. Sotiris Georganas, Associate Professor of Economics at the London City University, who spoke to us about the current state of the Greek economy and the gap between cost of living and wages and the distortions that exist in its structure.
The show ended with international news from Ivana Djordjevic and sports news
