On the day that women celebrate, the show “Take Your Time” hosted by phone Mrs Varvara Athanasiou-Ioannou, Founder and Head of the Spiritual Food Network of Greek Women Australia, author of the book “Her Voice”, with whom we talked about the data that apply in the country where she lives and operates in relation to women’s rights and abuse and femicide. We also talked about the big conference she is preparing with distinguished Greek women of the Diaspora in Epirus in September 2024 and, of course, about her book for which she is still seeking funding to publish it in Greek. We also met Mrs Marilena Mela, Director of Clinical Laboratory Genetics at the New York Genom Center, who is currently in her hometown Lefkada on maternity leave. We asked her, among other things, to tell us how much harder a woman can reach “tops” in the scientific field than her male colleagues because of discrimination and how insecure she can feel about being absent from her duties because of her need to be close to her child.
In the second hour (and then a short telephone response by ERT reporter Elina Kolyva from the center of Athens and the big rally of the Educational Community against the bill for the establishment of non-state universities) we hosted in the studio the long-distance marathon runner, Giota Vlachaki. We talked about her great successes, with distinctions in the classic marathon and the national cross-country championship, despite the fact that she must equally respond to the quadruple role of mother, wife, worker and athlete. Giota Vlachaki has set her sights on winning the Athens Classic Marathon and her secret dream is to return to the Olympic Games for the first time since 2016.
