On Sunday, June 16th, “Our Town” will host two important jazz soloists.
In the first part, we will present Vasilis Xenopoulos. A composer, saxophonist, a multifaceted personality who lives, creates and teaches in London, he will talk to us about his relationship with English musicians, the ideas he shares with them, and take us on a mental journey to his favorite haunts in the city.
The program will refer to his important productions, his international distinctions, his activities in New York and his participation in major festivals. Vassilis Xenopoulos is a member of Five-Way Split which is the most typical post-contemporary bebop expression group in Great Britain.
The second part of the show will feature the composer and guitarist Lefteris Christofis who is considered one of the representatives of what we would call cosmic jazz. Its playing produces a three-dimensional perspective sound, creating a unique jazz timbre.
The studio guest will talk to us about his many important international collaborations (Chico Freeman, Paul Vertigo, Jeff Berlin, etc.), his creative life in New York, London and other cities.
A typical characteristic of the artist, apart from the top collaborations, is the highly edited versions of the music. The show will refer to the creative space that Jazzét Café has been operating for years and the international festival that it organizes in September at Petra theatre.
The composer and musician Nikos Touliatos and the composer and performer Katerina Pipili from Paris will speak on the show.
