Yannis Remediakis from Houston on Our Global Voice | 16 Oct. 2025

Yannis Remediakis, president of the Hellenic Cultural Center of the South-West in the United States, spoke about the 53 online lectures that the Center is planning in collaboration with universities and other institutions in various countries. The theme of the series is Greek wisdom and how it connects with major world religions, under the title “Timeless Wisdom – How Greek Philosophy and World Religions Share a Life Worth Living.” He made these remarks on the Voice of Greece radio program “Our Global Voice”, hosted by Dimitris Kontogiannis.

Mr. Remediakis emphasized that the lectures will be delivered in English, with the exception of the event in Argentina, which will be in Spanish. However, there will be simultaneous translation through subtitles into several other languages. The series will begin this Sunday, October 19, at 10 p.m. Athens time, with the topic “Know Thyself.” To attend, participants must register in advance through the website of the Hellenic Cultural Center of the South-West, www.hcc-sw.org. Among the collaborators are institutions such as the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the University of Melbourne, the Federation of Hellenic Medical Societies of North America, Greek lawyers in London, the organization Nostos from Argentina, and others.

He stated that the purpose of the lectures is to demonstrate that ancient Greek philosophy is not a relic of the past but remains relevant and alive, and that concepts like virtue are found across all major religions such as Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, and Islam, especially in a time when many speak of a clash of religions. Another goal of the lectures is to encourage these topics to be discussed at the family table, in an era when social media dominates communication.
