Captain Michalis A. Chatzipetros, from the seafaring island of Kasos, speaks on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” on Voice of Greece.
This period finds him on another historic maritime island, Syros, where two vessels belonging to the company he works for are undergoing repairs. Captain Chatzipetros serves as the company’s chief captain.
“Repairs are currently under way here at the Neorio Shipyards of Syros, and everything is progressing smoothly. In fact, we are expecting a third vessel to arrive in the coming days,” Captain Michalis notes.
Having worked with and collaborated with numerous shipyards around the world, he compares them with those in Greece, emphasizing that Greek shipyards “are on the right path, although there is still work to be done. There is room for improvement so that we can become more competitive internationally. The shipyard of Syros, like the others in Greece, is ideally located, as we lie on major maritime routes linking the Mediterranean, the Black Sea, the Suez Canal, and beyond.”
