Vice Admiral (ret.) Giannis Pavlopoulos on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” | 17.03.2026

Giannis Pavlopoulos—former Vice Admiral (ret.), Honorary Chief of Fleet of the Hellenic Navy, and President of Sea Guardian Maritime Security Services—speaks on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” on Voice of Greece.

He discusses the current situation as it has evolved in the Strait of Hormuz, the Persian Gulf, and the wider region.

Any movement of commercial vessels in the area is effectively targeted and requires extreme caution. The global economy depends heavily on the region’s oil and natural gas. The safety of life at sea is the most important priority,” he notes, among other points.

He also highlights alternative solutions and regions under consideration for fuel supply, as well as the crucial role of diplomacy in addressing this complex crisis.

In addition, Pavlopoulos makes special reference to the eight most critical global maritime chokepoints that shape international shipping and the world economy—five of which are located in close proximity to Greece.
