“Our Town” marks Ohi Day, Greece’s national anniversary on 28 October, through Greek marches and the fascinating stories behind their melodies.
From Studio B of Hellenic Radio, David Nachmias, who conceived and directed the project, accompanies singers Alexandros Stavropoulos and Nikolas Karagkiaouris on piano.
From the celebrated “Pernaei o stratos” (The army marches by) by Dionysios Visvardis and “Aeroporos tha geno” (I’ll become an aviator) by Spyros Kaisaris to the legendary “Pindos” by Eleftherios Mavrommatis and “I Ellada pote den pethainei” (Greece never dies) by Leon Rigidis, the music reveals the unexpected paths of history. Composers, lyricists, archival recordings and little-known episodes shed light on a distinctive part of Greece’s musical heritage.
