On Thursday, April 18th, 2024, at 10:30 Athens time, guest on the show “Take Your Time” at Voice of Greece is Sofia Mela, a contemporary Greek creator of handmade traditional clothes for children, which, these days, are presented in an exhibition at the Hellenic Foundation for Culture.
Sofia Mela started her involvement with traditional costumes because of her love for Greek Culture, inspired by the concepts of “love” and “harmony”. Her journey all this time, working with effort and passion, creating unique works of art, brought her close to the stories of people who deal with arts and techniques that are lost over time, as industrialized clothing tends to prevail and “erase” Greek identity and tradition. This was also a very important motivation for her, in an effort to preserve the elements that make her creations unique.
The elements that stimulate her imagination are drawn from history, mythology, fairy tales, local costumes, needlework, songs, manners and customs, nature, art, legends, shadow theatre, historical buildings.
