“Take Your Time” reports back from Chania Film Festival | 24 & 25 Oct. 2024, 10:00

On Thursday, October 24, and Friday, October 25, from 10:00 to 12:00 (Athens time), the show “Take Your Time” on Voice of Greece heads to Chania, covering highlights and personalities from the 12th Chania Film Festival, which concludes on Sunday, October 27.

Prokopis Agelopoulos, after spending three days in the Cretan capital of cinema, as a guest of the festival, which has become an established event for the island, presents important figures in exclusive interviews. One of these is Greece’s top cinematographer, Giorgos Arvanitis, recently arrived from Paris, where he has lived for the past 35 years.

The man who collaborated with many great directors in world cinema, and cinematographer for Theodoros Angelopoulos, reflects on his life’s journey, characterized by his unique relationship with light. Joining him is author, screenwriter, and director Elisavet Chronopoulou, who shares the adventure of creating the book “A Life in Light,” which tells the story of Giorgos Arvanitis.

Additionally, celebrated Greek composer Dimitris Papadimitriou, honored for his contributions to cinema, having written music and songs for over 30 films and nearly 15 iconic TV series, speaks about the timeless relationship between music and cinema, and the codes by which it operates.

We also met 90-year-old amateur speleologist Antonis Plymakis, the protagonist of one of the school documentaries showcased at the festival. He shared memories from his exploration of over 250 caves in Crete, from 1955 to 2000. His explorations revealed unknown aspects of Crete’s remarkable nature, archaeological findings that were handed over to museums, and unforgettable memories that continue to captivate younger generations.
