Alexa Maros is one of 4,000 Greek children adopted by families in the U.S. and elsewhere in the decades after World War 2. She spoke on the Voice of Greece Radio and on the show “Our Global Voice” with Petros Diplas and Dimitris Kontogiannis recounting her efforts to find members of her biological family, named Antonopoulos, in Ilia, and the time and money she has unsuccessfully spent to get Greek citizenship.
Ms. Maros, who lives and works in the city of Santa Fe in the US state of New Mexico, concluded her story by speaking for the second time on the show, saying that a fire in Ilia burned the papers of her biological mother named Antonopoulos who were there and so she is trying to find a relative searching blindly. She expressed her frustration that she has spent a lot of time and money on lawyers to get what she is entitled to, i.e. Greek citizenship, and she cannot understand why the Greek state puts so many obstacles.
