In the second episode dedicated to the prelude to Turkey’s invasion of Cyprus in 1974, Antonis Klapsis, Associate Professor of Modern History and International Diplomacy at the University of Peloponnese, spoke to “Voice of Greece” and the show “Our Global Voice” with Petros Diplas and Dimitris Kontogiannis.
This time, Mr. Klapsis focused on the events of the first half of the 1960s, such as the constitutional changes in Cyprus that Archbishop Makarios sought at the end of 1963, the American Achenson Plan for resolving the Cyprus problem the following year, and the stance of the Greek governments, particularly that of then Prime Minister George Papandreou and his son Andreas.
