Dimitris Katsaounis, who emigrated to Canada with his family in 2015, spoke on Voice of Greece radio and the program “Our Global Voice” with Dimitris Kontogiannis about the current atmosphere in the country following the 25% tariffs imposed by the U.S. on certain Canadian imports and President Trump’s invitation for Canada to become the 51st state of the U.S.
Mr. Katsaounis highlighted the surge of patriotic sentiment among Canadians triggered by Trump’s statements. He also referred to the parade celebrating Greek Independence Day on March 25 in New York, in which a delegation from the Greek day school of Montreal took part and received a warm welcome from the Greek-American spectators. In addition, he made a brief reference to the upcoming Canadian parliamentary elections, which will take place on Monday, April 28.
