From Jerusalem to Athens and the studio of the “Voice of Greece”, the President of the Greek Community of Jerusalem, Mr. Anastasis Damianos, joins the broadcasting program on Tuesday, February 14.
On the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the community’s existence, Mr. Damianos has a moving discussion with Natasa Vissarionos and Nicole Papadopoulou, unfolding his personal story from Cana of Galilee where his grandfather lived to the city of Jerusalem, the history of Hellenism in Jerusalem, the famous “Club” and the contribution of the Greek community to the economic and spiritual development of Israel. Mr. Damianos mentions the celebrations for the community’s 120th anniversary, which is to take place in May of 2023, and stresses the great interest Israelis show in Greek activities. “Even though we didn’t have a school, we have learned the language, upheld the customs, and never forgot our homeland. It is the spark, the Greek spirit, that sustains us… when you are born Greek, you are brave, you fight, you have courage!” Mr. Damianos concludes.
