The soprano Christina Poulitsi, who has achieved remarkable success abroad, discussed her life and career journey from childhood to the present on the radio show “Our Global Voice” with Petros Diplas and Dimitris Kontogiannis.

Ms. Poulitsi spoke about the immense struggle and the incredible effort it took for her to reach success, highlighting the years of hard work needed to become the muse of the esteemed conductor Zubin Mehta. Mehta was captivated by her voice upon meeting her and supported her ascent in the field. The most significant aspect of her journey was that her path to success was initially marked by numerous rejections and disappointments. However, Christina Poulitsi did not give up. She fought tirelessly, overcoming all obstacles, and ultimately reached the pinnacle of her career.

Who She Is: Soprano Christina Poulitsi studied at the Berlin University of the Arts (with the Maria Callas and Alexandros Triantis Scholarships) and won the First Prize in the international Nikos Dostal competition (Vienna).

She has frequently collaborated with conductor Zubin Mehta, performing renowned roles under his direction (such as Gilda, Konstanze, Contessa di Folleville, and the Queen of the Night, among others). Poulitsi is a close collaborator of renowned Australian director and Berlin Komische Oper director Barrie Kosky. She is considered one of the top performers of the Queen of the Night role (“The Magic Flute”), which she has sung at some of the world’s most prestigious theaters. Christina Poulitsi has performed at the Royal Opera House in London, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Rome Opera Theater, the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, and the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. She has also performed roles in venues ranging from Tokyo’s New National Theatre to the Shanghai Grand Theatre and the Hamburg State Opera.
