Antonis Klapsis on Eleftherios Venizelos on “Our Global Voice” | 26 Feb. 2026

Antonis Klapsis, Associate Professor of Modern History and International Politics at the University of the Peloponnese, spoke about Eleftherios Venizelos — one of the most important political figures of modern Greece — on Voice of Greece Radio, on the programme “Our Global Voice” with Dimitris Kontogiannis.

Mr Klapsis, whose article on Eleftherios Venizelos and the role he played in the founding of the League of Nations — the forerunner of the United Nations — was published in an international academic journal, discussed both the achievements and the controversial aspects of the Cretan statesman’s political career. At times, he referred to incidents and events that are not widely known, such as his two-hour meeting with then U.S. President Woodrow Wilson in Paris in 1920, presenting previously unknown facets of his political life and action.
