Ethnic Greek MP Evangelos Doules on the election outcome in Albania | 12 May 2025

Greek minority MP Evangelos Doules, who appears to have been re-elected in yesterday’s national elections in Albania, expressed disappointment over the result, as his party failed to defeat the ruling Socialist Party of Prime Minister Edi Rama. Nonetheless, he voiced satisfaction with the “resistance” shown by the Himara region—an area with a strong Greek presence—during his interview on the Voice of Greece radio program “Our Global Voice” with Dimitris Kontogiannis.

Mr. Doules emphasized the role of the Albanian state in the electoral process and underlined the need for a comprehensive plan—by Greece and all relevant stakeholders—to support the remaining members of the Greek minority in staying in their ancestral homeland, and to encourage the return of those who left due to harsh living conditions, if Greece wishes to strengthen its position.
