Composer Areti Kokkinou and Makis Nalbantoglou, the creator and driving force behind the musical work “Ékame Krísi… me to Chrostíra tou” (“He Judged with His Brush”), were guests on “Take Your Time” with Prokopis Agelopoulos.
The work, subtitled Five Sonnets by Spanish Poets for Doménikos Theotokópoulos, was presented on 3 November 2025 at a packed auditorium of the Benaki Museum. Born out of a deep appreciation for traditional music, the project brings together Nikos Kazantzakis’ poetic verses dedicated to his beloved “Greco” with a careful study of elements drawn from both medieval and modern Spanish music. These influences are woven into the musical setting of sonnets written by Spanish poets in honor of Doménikos Theotokópoulos, better known as El Greco.
The music was composed by Areti Kokkinou, while Makis Nalbantoglou oversaw the project’s artistic and organizational direction. The production also featured acclaimed performers Grigoris Valtinos, Vasilis Gisdakis, and Ioanna Forti, alongside eight musicians whose inspired performances helped bring the work’s central figures vividly to life through music.
