Listen to the interview given to Voice of Greece and the program “Take Your Time” by renowned singer and songwriter Themis Andreadis.
We met him at his home in Nea Smyrni and journeyed back in time together — from his childhood years in Kallithea to his first artistic steps as a teenager in the music boîtes of Plaka, his collaboration with Giannis Markopoulos on Tarzan and Ochi Den Prepei, his musical settings of poems by beloved poets, and his “encounter” with cartoonist Giannis Logothetis, who introduced satirical song to the audiences of the era.
Andreadis also spoke about his decision to step away from singing when his record company rejected his desire to move toward a ballad-oriented musical style, leaving satirical song behind. He reflected on the important role his family played in his life, especially his wife, a visual artist, with whom he opened an art gallery during his years away from music — a venture that flourished until the years of the economic crisis.
He also discussed the serious health issue he managed to overcome and his return to music in recent years with new original songs and live performances in the music boîtes of Plaka.
Finally, he shared his thoughts on today’s music scene, noting that many songs from past decades have stood the test of time, whereas contemporary hits often enjoy only short-lived success.
