Veteran journalist Dimitris Kapranos, who has devoted many years of his career and writing to maritime affairs and the sea, spoke to Voice of Greece and “Fair Winds and Following Seas” about Posidonia, its evolution over the years, and the Greek shipping industry.
Recalling the early days of the exhibition, he noted:
“Themis Vokos was the one who insisted that Posidonia be spelled with an ‘I’ rather than ‘EI’, so that people would not be confused—and that is the spelling that prevailed. Back then, the big question was how we should write the name. Today, the question is where we are going to find enough space for everyone.”
Drawing on his extensive experience covering maritime exhibitions around the world, Kapranos emphasized the unique stature of Posidonia:
“I have followed shipping exhibitions across the globe for many years. The one we host here in Greece is by far the largest and the best. What sets it apart is the wide range of events, conferences, seminars, and discussions that take place around shipping, but also the hospitality of Greece itself—something you simply do not encounter anywhere else in the world.”
