On 01 January 2027, the Greek-language program of Deutsche Welle will cease operations, as the broadcaster has announced. A few days ago, an official petition calling for the preservation of Deutsche Welle’s Greek service was submitted to the Bundestag, the German parliament.
Mr. Kostas Tatsis, head of the diaspora website “Doryforos Munich”, spoke on the program about the significance of the petition’s official submission to the German parliament, the importance of this historic program, and whether it is still possible to overturn the decision.
He stressed that the Greek service is the only one among the broadcaster’s 32 language services that is being discontinued. The collection of signatures will play a decisive role: if a sufficient number is gathered, the issue will be brought for discussion in the German parliament. It is noted that people can sign the petition from anywhere in the world, not only from Germany.
