Marios Kampouris, a clinical and molecular geneticist at Sidra Hospital in Qatar, speaks on Voice of Greece radio in the programm “Our Global Voice”, hosted by Dimitris Kontogiannis.
Having been in Greece when the conflict in Iran broke out, he describes his anxious efforts to return to Doha due to his professional obligations, while also sharing impressions from his recent visit to China.
He highlights both the country’s striking landscapes — including those reminiscent of the settings seen in the film Avatar — and its high level of digitalisation, noting the widespread familiarity with technology among the population, including older generations. He also points out that everyday transactions, even with street vendors, are conducted electronically via mobile phones.
Among the elements that stood out to him were the cheerful demeanour of people, the vibrant night-time illumination — reminiscent of Christmas in the West — and the relatively higher prices of electronics from well-known Chinese companies.
